We are recruiting:

  • clinical lead position in the community portfolio. You will clinically lead a team of employees and contractors to ensure kiritaki and the interdisciplinary team receive psychology support in a comprehensive and timely manner. 
  • Part-time / full-time / contract providers with experience in working on ACC contracts (Concussion, Neuropsychological Assessment, Training for Independence, Psychological Services, Behavioural Support Services). 

About us

ABI is a leader in the field of brain injury rehabilitation and an accredited provider of post-acute, residential, and community-based rehabilitation for kiritaki with traumatic brain injury. We have a strong kiritaki and family/whānau focus with vibrant Māori Health Development initiatives supporting our mahi.

Our psychologists

  • provide therapeutic psychology sessions and undertake comprehensive assessments / psychometric testing as part of our inpatient and community-based rehab and assessment services. 
  • typically help kiritaki manage issues like depression, anxiety, adjustment, trauma, cognition and behaviour, as kiritaki returns to everyday life.
  • support provision of seamless transition for kiritaki from TBI inpatient facility, while returning to work / school, family and daily life. 
  • see our kiritaki at home, workplace, school, and clinic-based settings.  

You would be part of a collegial and supportive group of psychologists, working alongside highly skilled and professional rehabilitation medical specialists, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech-language therapists. ABI is known for our multi and interdisciplinary teamwork. We are keen to recruit psychologists with both adult and/or paediatric experience.

Our growing team of in-house clinical and neuropsychologists has peer group support in place. You would have the opportunity to contribute to rehabilitation service planning and promotion, ongoing training and development of fellow team members, and clinical research. We require a high standard of work and in return are committed to our kaimahi and offer flexible working hours.

We offer a pathway to support registration under the neuropsychological scope of practice with the NZPB, for clinical psychologists who intend to enrol in the Otago Post Graduate Diploma in Neuropsychology. The pathway includes opportunities to work in both our intensive inpatient/residential setting and our community inter-disciplinary teams.

About you?

Successful applicants will have a postgraduate qualification in psychology and be registered with the New Zealand Psychologist Board. 

You should have, as a minimum, formal post graduate paper(s) in psychology, minimum of one year’s work experience in mental health (or a related field), and a special interest in working with kiritaki with brain injury and their whānau.

For the right candidate, we could provide supervision and training to become an ACC Named Provider for Psychological Services and /or Neuropsychology contracts.

Applicants for Clinical Lead position would have at least 5 years post graduate work experience with kiritaki with neurological disorders and have worked under the ACC Psychological Services or Concussion contracts.
