Join our specialist Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) rehabilitation service, where every meal plays a part in recovery, dignity, and rebuilding independence. As Head Chef, you’ll lead a small, dedicated kitchen team delivering nutritious, high-quality meals that directly support the wellbeing and progress of our clients and their whānau.

This is a truly rewarding role where your expertise goes beyond great food — you’ll contribute to positive outcomes for people on their recovery journey, creating meals that are both nourishing and empowering.

You will work closely with our Speech Language Therapists (SLT), dietitian, and wider interdisciplinary team to provide safe, person-centred meals, including a strong focus on texture-modified diets and specialised nutrition requirements.

About the Role

Our service is a 36-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit. Meal volumes vary depending on occupancy and individual client needs, creating a dynamic environment that requires flexibility, organisation, and a collaborative approach to consistently deliver excellent service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day kitchen operations, maintaining high standards of food quality and safety
  • Plan and prepare menus that support rehabilitation, recovery, and overall wellbeing
  • Deliver meals tailored to a wide range of dietary and texture-modified requirements
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams to ensure safe and appropriate nutrition
  • Promote dignity, choice, and independence through food

Dietary Expertise

You will bring strong knowledge of:

  • Texture-modified diets (e.g. pureed, minced and moist, soft diets)
  • Gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and sugar-free diets
  • Managing complex and individualised dietary needs in a healthcare setting

About You

  • Experienced Head Chef or Senior Chef ready to lead
  • Passionate about quality food and making a positive impact on people’s lives
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills
  • Healthcare or similar experience is advantageous
