Our residential services at ABI and Evolve Rehabilitation provide short, medium, or long-term residential support, facilitating our clients to regain independence and re-learn daily activities.

About the role

We have a 0.6FTE vacancy for a qualified senior nurse to take up responsibilities as the Nurse Educator in our residential services. If you have previous nursing experience working with people in rehabilitation, neuro services, mental health, or related disciplines, we are keen to hear from you.

As the Nurse Educator, you will be responsible for delivering leadership, mentorship, education, and support to the nursing team to ensure excellence in the provision of rehabilitation in collaboration alongside our Regional Managers. The role does include some North Island travel.

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to the Nursing team
  • Ensure the nursing team delivers high-quality clinical care, which includes assessment, interventions, and evaluation of client status that is reflective of current evidence-based best practice
  • Use evidence-based practices within the clinical decision-making process
  • Be responsible for the assessment of nursing portfolios and review of competencies
  • Conduct education and training sessions including policy refreshers relevant to nurses
  • Facilitate nurse orientation
  • Guides new graduate nurses’ safe transition to practice through education and mentorship aligned with Nursing Council of New Zealand standards.

Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent Registered Nurse qualification
  • Current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Five years’ experience in an acute neuro or rehabilitation setting
  • Current NZ Driver’s License

Skills Required:

  • Demonstrate excellent teaching/facilitation and leadership skills
  • Sound understanding of rehabilitation principles
  • Demonstrated high standard of clinical care and clinical safety management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills allowing effective working relationships with staff, clients, and whānau
  • Strong time management and systems development skills
  • Ability to manage a quality improvement programme within the area of responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent administrative/computer skills

The Nurse Educator role is a permanent part-time position. The salary will be between $114,025.00 and $127,674.00 gross per annum as per the PSA/NZNO ABI Collective Agreement salary scale, depending on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.
